Susie Contratto
It's many years later since Susie first started teaching with Monica and she still out-produces newer staff members in shop samples and new classes. Her evening classes for beginning piecing students and evening Sit and Sew sessions are some of our most popular offerings. Here are pictures of her current classes.

Beginning Piecing - "

This 3-week course teaches you all the basics you need to start and finish your first quilt. You'll learn how to cut and measure accurately, use tools, and make adjustments, plus make bowties, flying geese and 9-patch blocks. The end result is an easy strip quilt using one focus fabric and five coordinating prints. $65

Beyond Beginning - ""

Don’t wait a whole year to get a sampler completed. Finish this beautiful 12-block sampler in four weeks! Each block is unique so you learn new techniques such as how to make half square triangles, snowballs and lots more. You’ll make bear paw, Aztec star, birds in flight, desert bloom and eight other blocks. If you’ve taken Beginning Quilting, this is a great next step. If you’re a seasoned quilter, you’ll enjoy doing something different in each class. $80

A Bit Askew - ""

This informal scrappy quilt works great using black and white prints with splashes of color. Works with flannels, wovens and plaids. The more fabrics you have to work with, the better the visual interest. Let go and be chaotic and random. Don’t be afraid to put stripes and dots next to each other. Makes a great boy or girl quilt to take to college or to camp. Pattern Required: A Bit Askew

Bouillabaisse - ""

A little bit of this and a little bit of that and soon you have some really great blocks — just like a great bouillabaisse. Daiwabos look elegant in these blocks or any and everything Asian. Strips sewn then cut into triangles and re-sewn create interesting patterns. 2-part class. Pattern Required: Bouillabaisse  $35

Diamond Jubilee #II - ""

Easy, quick-cutting and strip-piecing techniques are used to make this stunning diamond quilt. No Y seams are required! This can be done with a fabric line or scraps, either controlled or uncontrolled.  Pattern Required: Diamond Jubilee #II  $35

Hokey Pokey -""

We can dance our way through this quilting dance with beautiful batiks for an exciting result. You will learn to shuffle fabrics into different positions to achieve a controlled, yet random effect. 2-part class. Pattern Required $35

Sit and Sew - "

For those unable to come to the store during the day, meet with Susie on Thursday evenings and finish your UFOs (UnFinished Objects). Registration and payment prior to the session is required. $10
